Is Obesity a Disease?

Obesity IS a Disease:

  • Obesity meets the requirements to be a disease in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as "a condition that prevents the body or mind from working normally."
  • Obesity can affect normal bodily functions.
  • Obesity can and will most likely shorten life span.
  • Obesity can be inherited, like a disease.
  • The government classifies and treats obesity as a disease.

Obesity is NOT a Disease:

  • Obesity is a preventable condition.
  • Obesity can cause highe risk for other diseases but is not one itself.
  • Obesity is a side-effect of overeating and poor nutritional valued foods.
  • Humans can be overweight while having normal blood pressure and cholesterol.
  • Obesity is a result of modern lifestyle without exercise
